We love fishing for pike. Pike are agressive, they have some nasty teeth, and they only have one thing on their mind when they see your “fly”: “must… destroy… that… fly!!!”
“Look there, 60 feet, 11 o’clock! Nervous water! Wait… Wait… Cast now!! Wait… Wait… Strip, strip!! Set the hook!!! *BANG* Fish on!” These are the words you will be dreaming about after a full day of fishing in Mexico.
Just imagine your perfect trout stream. What will it be like? Maybe beautiful and clear water? Maybe white sandy bottoms? With some skatered rocks in there? Some nice variation in river structure? We decide to go fishing in Austria and booked a room in Hotel Bräurup in Mittersill to enjoy a romantic “couple weekend” which means fishing all day long in stinky waders. Mauro has been there a few times in the past and for Daniela it’s the first time. The first weekend of October at f*ck** 5 o’clock in the morning we started our journey in Zürich and drove to Mittersill.
Last week I went to Austria, to spent some time on the prestine waters of the salzach and it’s many little streams. We booked a week in the well know Bräurup hotel in Mittersill. After the summer, when all the snow has melted, the salzach is at a level where you can fish it. During the summer months, the fishing on the salzach is nearly impossible because of the melting snow. This results in white water, and high water levels. Altough the locals still fish the salzach during this period, fishing is very hard!
I went fishing on the 24th and 25th of september 2010 in the Wenne, a beautifull little stream in the Sauerland region in Germany. We stayed in a perfect hotel called Haus Hochstein in Wenholthausen. The evening we arrived it had been raining all day. Usually that’s not good when fishing in this region. The streams color-up pretty fast, and fishing becomes impossible after a few hours of heavy rain.
Usually i’m not a big fan of “recap” articles that appear in the end of the year. But I have a lot of photo material on my drive from the past season (2009). I think it’s a waste to do nothing with them. That’s why I’ve picked the best ones and put them all together in this article.
Finally back in Mexico! We had to wait about a whole year to return to this tropical paradise…
