OVM Muddler

Posted on 29 November 2012 by Vincent

A couple more days, and lake OVM is open again. The resident fish had their rest for a month. Next week we are going to lake OVM for some winter fishing, time for some new flies!

The OVM Muddler

One of the most productive winter fishing methods on lake OVM, is fishing a muddler on a sinking line. My favorite muddler pattern is one with a mink zonker strip. It gives the fly a lot of movement. Give this one a try on a sinking line and a very slow retrieve. Adapt your leader length to the depth you want to fish this fly: Short leader = close to the bottom, long leader = higher above the bottom.

What’s the reason for the Salmon hook vs. a normal streamer hook?

Hi Jasper, Sometimes you just have certain hooks lying around, and then you think: Why not use these?

Of course, a normal long shank streamer hook would be fine!
